Learning is a work in progress.

I have been making socks for about 2 years.....now I am learning how to do them right...LOL

I am partial to the Magic Loop method of making anything tubular. I have just recently learned how to do 2 items on one long circular needle. Saves counting rows or keeping track of which row I did an increase or placed a thumb.

I have been experimenting with differnt cast ons and differerent heel comstruction. I think I am in favor of cuff down with a knitted cast on and the Fleegle heel is my favorite. I don't do well with a heel flap. Just doesn't work for me. If I am doing a toe up sock or mittens, I like my method of casting on over most all I have seen, especially on the ML needle.

I just hold both needles tight together with both points going toward my left hand. Then I cast on one stitch on the first needle then the second stitch on the second needle...then alternate them back and forth. I like the looks of it and after casting on, I am set to go!!

I am currently learning to do color work. What a trip. I have started and ripped these mittens at least 6 times. My last effort is now almost 5 inches long and I have done the scrap yarn thingy for the thumb. It is done in gray with a peach teddy bear. I will post a picture of it tomorrow.

I have fiddled around so long today that it is now midnight and I still have to process my applebutter.

Sunday, 10-04-09...What huge bummer. I tore out the mittens all the way down to the cuff. It was looking cute, but, not right. I had way too many mistakes to actually give them to someone. So....the mittens are now going to be socks...lol

Tuesday, 10-06-09...Well, I have now decided to knit something really simple as my nerves are shot....lolI am starting a pair of 2 needle mittens. We shall see how far I get with THAT!!!!!!!I think that old saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" is right....lolI rearranged my kitchen and did some changing in the livingroom. As I am in a power chair, I use it to move things....my own personal fork lift...lolSo, now I am ready to cast on for the mittens using a worsted weight yarn in varigated colors of gray, blue, white, and mauve...it is georgous. I am using a pattern from Bev at http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/ I definetly will post a pic...lol

Wednesday, 10-07-09...Well, my simple project turned out ok...but, I forgot what a pain it is to sew....lol...I am now making the same pair of mittens only I am adapting the pattern to Magic Loop. I will post another pic later and the pattern if Bev lets me :o)

  2. WHich mitts pattern did you use? Was it The Mitts, or the ones for kids on 2 needles? Either one, I now always knit both mitts at the same time, using the inside and outside strands of yarn, or using 2 balls the same color.

Your turned out great! And of course you can post photos. :)
